Playrooms PC Requirements and the Official Lighting-Stall Fix
Compare Playrooms and demo requirements, use the developer's Lightmap Resolution fix, and distinguish lighting stalls from startup and input issues.
FAQ
How much storage does Playrooms need?
Does meeting the recommended specification guarantee 60 FPS?
What are the minimum and recommended specifications?
Both official full-game and demo listings specify Windows 10 64-bit and DirectX 11. CPU, RAM and GPU tiers match, while storage differs: 10 GB available for the full game and 4 GB for the demo.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | Intel Core i5-7600K / AMD Ryzen 5 1600 | Intel Core i5-10400 / AMD Ryzen 5 3600 |
| RAM | 8 GB | 16 GB |
| GPU | NVIDIA GTX 1060 6 GB / AMD RX 580 | NVIDIA RTX 2060 6 GB / AMD RX 5700 |
| Graphics API | DirectX 11 | DirectX 11 |
| Full-game free space | 10 GB | 10 GB |
| Demo free space | 4 GB | 4 GB |
These are store requirements, not measured download sizes or benchmark results. No target resolution, preset or guaranteed frame rate is specified.
What should you change if the demo stalls when lights shut down?
Install the available demo update, then use Graphics → Lightmap Resolution. The developer’s October 15 notice identifies excess graphics-memory pressure during the shutdown and says Auto selects an appropriate level; Quarter is the advised fallback when stalls persist.
- Locate Lightmap Resolution in the demo’s Graphics settings.
- Start with Auto.
- If the same shutdown still stalls, select Quarter.
- Check whether that specific transition now completes.
This targets a documented demo stall. A room becoming dark at the end of a shift is normal gameplay, while unexpectedly dark areas during working hours need a different diagnosis.
Which guide matches a different symptom?
Match what actually fails before changing more settings. The developer has discussed separate rendering, input and Windows-blocking problems; a lighting adjustment cannot be assumed to resolve them all.
| Symptom | Relevant next step |
|---|---|
| An area that should be lit stays unusually dark | Lighting and darkness: provide GPU, OS and a screenshot |
| “Failed to load il2cpp” or a Windows block message before play | Startup and Smart App Control: identify the block and try the developer’s restart/retry advice |
| Camera drift or difficult mouse/controller navigation | Input and Steam Deck reports |
| Sprint/crouch seems unavailable | Unlock permissions and stamina |
The input and platform page distinguishes player Steam Deck reports from developer or Valve compatibility confirmation.
Where is the log requested by the developer?
The same October 15 notice asks for Player.log when stalls or crashes continue, with the file under the folder below. Open it through File Explorer’s address bar rather than deleting the directory as a troubleshooting experiment.
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Two Pixels UG (haftungsbeschränkt)\Playrooms Demo
Send the relevant log to [email protected], the developer’s published support address. Include the symptom, system details and whether Quarter changed the result; review the file for information you do not wish to share.
These instructions concern the demo. Use the demo guide to identify its Steam entry and release status before applying trial-build instructions to a later full release.
