How to Drop Balls in Playrooms: Deposit Controls Explained

Put carried balls into a pool with the developer-confirmed control, and learn why Playrooms has no separate drop key.

How do you put down the balls you are carrying?

Look directly at a collection pool and left-click. Two Pixels UG gave that answer to a player who could move and collect but could not work out how to release their load. There is no separate drop key in that developer’s explanation of the demo.

The important distinction is the target: collecting a loose ball and depositing into a pool share the left mouse button, but you need to aim at the pool for the deposit action. Searching the keyboard for a universal “drop” command will not resolve this particular question.

Developer answer, October 25.

What is the shortest reliable sequence?

  1. Collect balls using the normal pickup interaction.
  2. Move back to a collection pool.
  3. Face the pool, rather than an adjacent wall or floor.
  4. Left-click to deposit.

The confirmed interaction targets a collection pool. A free-drop action onto arbitrary floor space has not been established.

Check the current on-screen prompt if you have rebound controls. The October 13 update also added E interaction for collection pits, doors and equipment, but the later answer to the deposit question specifically names left-click. Official interaction update.

Why does the Waiting Room vent behave differently?

Use the broom for the Waiting Room suction task. When another player asked how to get balls to the suction point, the developer explained that the broom was the intended tool. That is a separate task from emptying your carried balls into a pool.

Read the broom and Waiting Room guide before treating a vent as another pool. The available evidence does not confirm a hand-held-ball throwing method for feeding that vent.

What if the deposited balls change color?

A changing color is not evidence that you used the wrong deposit button. Developers have discussed both older-save color tracking and a later batching bug. The practical limitations and the distinction between a demo issue and a claimed full-version fix are covered in color sorting.

For movement actions that appear unavailable, see sprint, crouch and stamina. Those actions have unlock conditions; the absence of a separate drop button is a different design choice.
